We Care A Lot – A Recent Claim
We care an awful lot, but not in the creepy way that new Netflix movie, I Care A Lot, does. We actually look out for you! Here’s a claim from this past week to prove it!
Recently, one of our business insurance client’s called the office to let us know he had been in a single vehicle accident. He owns an auto body shop and after working on his client’s vehicle, he took it for a test drive to make sure all the problems were taken care of. Unfortunately for him, he happened to get into an accident during this vehicle test.

When police arrived at the scene, he was asked if he had proof of insurance for the vehicle. Can you see where this is headed? Our client was honest with the officer and explained to him that he didn’t have proof of insurance, because it isn’t his vehicle. This wasn’t going to fly for the officer though, and our client was then told he would be taken to jail. (It should be noted that in most any other scenario of this, you would simply be given a ticket, not taken to jail! We don’t really know why this escalated so quickly with our client!)

Anyways, our client actually does have proof of insurance for this vehicle, just in a different way than what you may be familiar with. You see, he has something known as a “Garage Keepers Coverage”. This type of policy is made specifically for businesses such as: auto body shops, mechanics, dealerships, ect. to protect them in this type of situation. It’s a policy that covers the driver and business when they are handling vehicles that they do not own, so they can do the work the owner isn’t capable of.

With Garage Keepers Coverage, you don’t have an ID card for situations like this. So when our client called in, our general manager, Kris Zinszer, printed out the client’s policy and rushed to the scene to smooth things out with the officer to avoid our client being taken to jail, because that’s just the kind of people we are!

By the time Kris made it to the scene, our client had been put into the back of the police car, and was taken to his auto shop to try and prove to the officer that he was, in fact, insured to drive this car. Unfortunately he couldn’t seem to locate his policy, so Kris redirected his drive and met the two of them at the auto shop. When he arrived there he was able to cool down the situation and keep our client from spending any time in jail!

The officer had no choice but to drop the situation, and move on with his own day. Then came the hard part, fixing the situation. That’s when Kris asked our client what he wanted, and as many of our customers respond, he stated, “I want you to make this go away,” and that’s exactly what we’re going to make happen.
Because like we said, “We care a lot.”
Give us a call if you need Garage Keepers Coverage, or really any kind of coverage. As always, we’ve got your back!
